Positive Activities During Your Daily Walk

Don't just take a walk, make it into a positive exercise activity. Add proprioception, limp lifting and even stretching to your regualr daily walk and increase your dog's quality of life at the same time. Some simple ideas you can challenge your healthy dog with could be; walking in large circles around every fire hydrant you come upon, walking on paths verse hard pavement, walking over small fallen branches to encourage lifting the legs and paws higher, maybe even splashing through some shallow water which also encourages leg lifting. How about trying a good stretch on your walk, how would you do this? Maybe find a log or a small retaining wall and place your dog's front paws up onto the object and lure their nose out in front of them for a good hip stretch. Wow you have just added in some great maintenance activities in a fun way with no extra time needed out of your day! These ideas are for dogs who are healthy and have no mobility issues.
